9 Easy Ways to Create Healthy Head Space as a Busy Mompreneur

Updated: Jan 14, 2021

You have a crew of littles following you around asking for snacks, wanting to go for walks, needing help with virtual learning – it’s a busy season of life! But you know you are destined for something outside of this too.

Enter being a Mompreneur*.

You are primed to do it all – start your own business or blog during naptime or after the kids are in bed. As if you weren’t already busy enough, now those couple of hours that were spent on catching up on everything (because Moms are already doing a full-time job!) are devoted to running your business.

The overwhelm can set in quickly. This is where creating healthy headspace, and taking care of your own mental health, comes into play!

You are still a person. You deserve time to relax. Unwind. Work out. Stay positive. Enjoy that glass of wine with your spouse. So, how do you pull it off?

We are going to talk about 9 easy ways to maintain a healthy headspace while Mom-ing and working. The juggle is real (see what I did there?).

1. Meditate

You are here because you feel some stress and overwhelm, taking the world by storm as a new mompreneur. First, you got this!

Meditation can help in a variety of ways. It will allow you to create a healthier headspace and better mental health. This is true even as a busy mom and business owner.

It reduces stress, calms anxious thoughts, and can even lengthen attention span. Hello, boosted productivity!

It also enhances self-awareness- a great tool to have in your back pocket when you are running a business- and promotes kindness.

Win-win all around!

2. Exercise (I know, I know), but keep it short

All those fitness blogs, the diet culture we are living in, the commercials we see on Hulu- they all feed into this mentality that we need to be on the move. ALL. THE. TIME.

The truth? Moving for just 10 minutes a day will do wonders for your body and mind.

Even if it’s just a quick walk around your block!

3. Be Grateful

I just got a new Panda Planner, and I love it! There is a space at the top to write down three things you are grateful for and three things you are excited about.

Starting the day off like this totally changes your mood. It’s a real thing. I’m not usually a “fluffy” person, but this one is rooted in science. Can’t argue with that.

Better mood= better productivity= more time to do all the things, both mom and business-related!

4. Hydrate

I’ll be the first to tell you – I’m the worst at this. Like really, really terrible.

Things that have helped me stay on track:

· Getting a soda stream (an extremely generous gift from family)

· Having a water bottle I like

· Having the water sitting next to me ALL.DAY.LONG.

I know it’s good for me. I know I feel better when I do this. I believe in it, which is why I’m recommending it for you – even though I’m bad at it. If you have them, send tips my way!

5. Do a Digital Detox for Healthy Head Space

If you are getting a business up and running, shutting off your social media channels may not be workable as it is probably part of your business plan.

BUT you can make your feed suit you, and there’s no shame in that.

Do I believe you should live in an echo chamber? No, absolutely not – it’s important to engage with people that don’t think like we do.

But if you find it draining your energy…

Delete. Unfollow. Come back to it later when you have more space to give.

6. Fuel Your Body in Ways that Create Healthy Head Space

I’m a huge fan of the 80/20 rule, and many, many experts and coaches promote this as well.

I’m not going to tell you never to eat a piece of chocolate, drink a glass of wine, or have ice cream again.

That’s not realistic or fair.

Those things can contribute to healthy head space sometimes too if we are using them to unwind.

But, for the most part- 80% of the time, fuel up with healthy (whatever that means for YOUR body, I’m not a wellness coach- if you are looking for that content, see here!- so I won’t go too far into this one), delicious foods and you’ll feel great.

If you are fueled well, your brain will be firing on all cylinders, and that productive Mompreneur thing will come as naturally as can be!

7. Encourage Others

It may seem counterintuitive to take the time to do this when you have SO much already on your own plate, but it will fill your cup!

Find people- in Facebook groups, in meetups (post-covid), at the park- who think similarly to you and are on this journey too. Lift them up and give them words of wisdom or a simple, “I’m cheering you on!”

It will do you both a world of good, promise.

8. Believe in Yourself for Healthy Head Space

Believing in yourself is tough, especially when you are starting something new. But, as with anything, the more you practice this, the better you will get!

You will feel uplifted and more motivated to get things done — a huge bonus for getting your business off the ground.

Participating in goal setting is a great way to get a jump start on really believing in yourself. You got this.

9. Celebrate Progress, Big or Small

We are so good at being everyone else’s cheerleader. Let’s be our own too! No matter how big or small the win, you deserve to be celebrated.

Did you share your first social media post?

Did you build a website from scratch?

Did you call yourself a “[insert name of new business here]” in public?

All of these are wins! Do a little happy dance when you achieve one.

What is one win you have had recently? Doesn’t matter how big or small! Share in the comments below. I’d love to hear about it.

I’m cheering you on,

Erin
